Upon the news of Chris Cornell's death, we remember the rock legend who, as frontman for Soundgarden, pioneered a sound that was at once heavy and melodic, relentless and soulful. Together with bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana, he helped define '90s style, on and off the stage, but he didn't let the era define him. Over his decades-long career, he continued to produce new music, either with Temple of the Dog, Audioslave or through his solo work. He was 52.
